Looking for Love

Looking for Love

The Stranger Who Said Three Words

There was a time in my life when I wanted desperately to be loved. I looked for love in people, in relationships, and in all the places the world promised I might find it. Sometimes I thought I had finally found what my heart was searching for, only to end up disappointed and hurting once again.

The truth was, my soul was crying out for something deeper. I did not understand it then, but God was near, watching me and longing for me to choose Him. His love had been in front of me all along. He wanted me to know Him, trust Him, and allow Him to fill the empty places in my heart.

But instead of turning toward Him, I turned away. Perhaps I thought God was disappointed in me. Maybe I believed I had wandered too far or made too many mistakes. Whatever the reason, I continued looking to the world for the love only God could give me.

Then one ordinary day, something extraordinary happened.

A woman I had never met walked up to me. She did not give me a long speech. She did not ask about my past or tell me everything I had done wrong. She simply looked at me and said, “God loves you.” Then she walked away. Three little words. Yet they went straight into my heart.

I stood there thinking about what she had said. Could God really love me? Not the person I wished I had been, but the person I was, with all my mistakes, regrets, and broken places?

Those words opened my eyes to a love I had been running from.

That woman may never have known what her simple message accomplished, but God used her to change the direction of my life. She reminded me that His love was not waiting at the end of a perfect life. His love was already there, reaching for me.

So many of us are searching for love. We look for it in relationships, approval, possessions, success, and the opinions of others. Yet even when those things make us feel loved for a moment, they cannot fully satisfy the longing within us. Our souls were created to know the love of God.

Perhaps today you need to hear the same message that stranger gave me so many years ago:

God loves you. Just as you are. He sees where you have been. He knows every hurt you carry. He understands the choices you regret, and He has not turned away from you. His love is closer than you think.

The Bible says in 1 John 3:1 “See what great love the Father has lavished on us, that we should be called children of God!”

A Quiet Prayer

Lord, thank You for loving me just as I am. Help me open my heart to Your love and stop searching for it in places that leave me empty. Amen.
